Amanda DaSilva Open House

Sunday February 28, 2010 | 1:41

Amanda Dasilva’s “Flora; inspired by the season of expression” was filled with fine fashion & interesting folks.

Today I took in an open house held by Amanda Da Silva, a vivacious and talented local fashion designer. Entitled Flora; inspired by the season of expression, the fashion show highlighted Amanda’s spring collection of easy to wear and livable fashions.

Held at her beautiful 1913 Loft space at 72 St. Legere Street in Kitchener, the afternoon featured amazing fashion, great food, lively conversation and lots of interesting folks. I attended the event with the lovely and talented Jennifer Gough of Minds Eye Studio Art as well as Amy Vandenberg of Cute Gecko.

I took the opportunity to snap a few pictures of the event, and urge all of you to visit Amanda’s website at: www.amandadasilva.com.

Manufacturing: A Time for Innovation

The Manufacturing Innovation Network (MIN) is a free online network for manufacturers in the Waterloo Region.

Last night I had the opportunity to document the first anniversary of the Manufacturing Innovation Network. This is a fantastic network connecting manfacturing leaders, entrepreneurs, government officials & technology experts from the Waterloo region.

One of the visionaries of the MIN was Dan Latendre CEO of Igloo Software.

It’s refreshing to see the manufacturing community working together in fostering innovation and business in the Waterloo Region. More often than not the area’s tech community gets the limelight but lets not forget there are thriving manufacturing companies that are doing great work.

The event was hosted at the amazing space at CIGI. Among the speakers were, Rod Regier, Executive Director, City of Kitchener, John Milloy, MPP Kitchener and Jason Santo, MIN Community Facilitator. John Keating, CEO of Com Dev gave a stirring presentation on innovation and cooperation within the community.

After the keynote, there was an innovation panel discussion touching on such topics as social media, cooperation within the community and moving foward in the future.

The good thing is, those technologies and trends are our business.

A Return to Simpler Times

It’s all become very complicated. With everyone pushing social networks, and blogs, and RSS feeds blindly without any rhyme or reason, it’s easy to become disenfranchised with the whole mess.

All these technologies are great. But only if they can help you. If they can’t help you, they mean nothing. We won’t push them down your throat just because CNN said they’re the greatest new thing. Instead, through discussions with you, we will evaluate and suggest what will technologies will work best to grow your company into the future
